Troubleshooting Your AC (Before Calling for Repairs)

ac-repair-technicianThe last thing that any homeowner in a climate as hot as ours wants to encounter is an air conditioner that stops working properly in the middle of the hottest time of the year. Unfortunately, there is just no way in which to guarantee that your air conditioner in Phoenix, AZ is always going to function precisely as it ought to. Air conditioners are mechanical systems, and they operate under a lot of stress in this part of the country. Eventually, you are going to run into trouble.

The good news is that many issues with one’s air conditioner can be resolved quickly and simply. There are obviously a lot of very serious problems that could develop with an air conditioner, but not every instance is going to be terribly serious. Here are a few tips for troubleshooting your air conditioner before dialing our number to schedule repairs.

The Air Conditioner Is Not Blowing Air At All

This is the most alarming situation that you can encounter when trying to cool your home during the summer season. Now, there is certainly a chance that your system has broken down entirely for some reason and that it may need to be professionally repaired. However, there may be other issues causing the problem that you can handle on your own.

The very first thing that you should do is simply check your thermostat. If you have accidentally set the temperature higher than you meant to, or if the system was accidentally switched off, then you are not going to need professionals to resolve the situation! Simply make the necessary adjustments, remind the kids not to fiddle with the thermostat, and get back to living comfortably.

Another item to check is your condensate pump. If your air conditioner does not just drain condensation out of the house, but relies on a pump to get rid of it, it is possible that this pump has malfunctioned. If the reservoir is full of water, a limit switch may be keeping the system to keep it from overflowing.

Finally, double check your circuit breaker. The indoor unit may be running on a circuit that has tripped, and you can fix that problem with a simple flip of a switch. If you cannot find any obvious cause of the issue, then contact us to have the problem diagnosed and resolved.

The System Is Blowing Warm Air

Another issue that you may encounter is warm air coming from the registers in your home. This could be indicative of serious issues like refrigerant leaks or damaged ductwork but, again, it could also be a minor issue that you can handle on your own.

It’s possible that the outdoor unit is off due to a tripped breaker, leaving the indoor unit to blow unconditioned air throughout the house. Again, just check the breaker and reset it as needed. You should double check the thermostat as well. It’s even possible, if you use a heat pump, that you accidentally left the system in its heating mode.

You are not always going to wind up in a best case scenario, of course. When you’re not, count on our team for exceptional air conditioning repairs.

G-O-E-T-T-L it’ll keep you cool but it’s hard to spell.

Roger came out on Thanksgiving Day to fix our unit. Turns out, our home builder completely shorted us on the amount of blown-in attic insulation (which you think a home inspector would have caught) and also our unit is too small for our house which is 4 years old. Roger took the time to explain all of this to us in detail and got our unit up and running. Thank you Roger!
