Understanding the Different Types of Water Softeners
Salt-based Ion Exchange Softeners
Salt-based water softeners work by running hard water through a resin bed to reduce or remove hardness caused by minerals like calcium and magnesium in your Las Vegas area water. Those hard mineral ions are exchanged for soft ions such as sodium or potassium. These are the most common water softening solutions, however if you are on a diet with sodium restrictions, a salt-based water softener may not be ideal.
Reverse Osmosis – Salt-Free Conditioners
Goettl’s reverse osmosis system eliminates hard water problems without salt. This type of system provides advanced water purification that also keeps beneficial minerals in your water. The process works by using a semi-permeable membrane to remove as much as 99% of dissolved salts, particles, chemical contaminants, and even bacteria from the water in the Southern Nevada region. It prevents scale buildup in your pipes, too, and produces pure drinking water.
Dual-Tank Softeners
A dual-tank water softener has two resin tanks and one salt tank, providing a continuous soft water supply. Should one tank reach capacity, the system can then switch automatically to the other. The result for Las Vegas area residents: soft water access 24/7. This is the most efficient system for softening your water.

Plamen completed our in-home consultation. He conducted a water test and walked me through each step. Went in thinking I would only need a water softener but quickly learned that’s only one piece of the water treatment system and am now looking at the water filtration and softener system. The whole consult took a little less than 1.5 hours. If I do go with Goettl, will update this post with my review of the installation. For now, 5 stars for the in home consultation.

He suggested that I look into getting a water softener, which would help my water heater last longer. He showed us pictures of both of the furnaces and explained in detail maintenance needed to keep them running smoothly. And he gave us a flashlight and a stuffed animal and arranged for a plumber to come out and fill the water softener with salt pellets since the bags are too heavy for us to lift. This was installed by them just over 2yrs ago, and we started having problems where our pump to inside wouldn't pull water and we had 0 water pressure.
