Toilet Tips: Keep Things Flowing Smoothly!
If you were to do an inventory of your home, chances are that you wouldn’t find the toilet to be the most complex of items in it. The fact that your toilet serves a necessary function does make it one of the most important items in your home, though. And, while there is no way to guarantee that you’ll never run into trouble with your toilet, there are a few measures that you can take to help minimize any such problems.
And there are also some tips and tricks you should know if you notice problems with your toilet developing! Keep in mind that such problems may not always be as serious as they seem—and that they may not be what they seem at all. And, if they are as serious as you’d initially thought, don’t worry. We’re here to handle any plumbing repair services in Phoenix, AZ, that you may need. Don’t hesitate to call our team.
First of All, Flushing Has Its Limits
It’s probably not a big surprise to hear that the most common problem homeowners encounter with their toilets is the simple clog. Of course, clogs are not always as simple as you might expect. What they often are, however, is easily avoidable. The fact is that a lot of homeowners contribute to clogs in their drain and sewer systems without realizing that they’re doing anything wrong.
Now, the simplest way to ensure that you are flushing your toilet appropriately is to limit the amount of material that you’re flushing all at once. Obviously, we don’t want to be wasting a lot of water, but if you’re using a lot of toilet tissue in one go, then you are probably better off going with two flushes. Overloading the toilet in a single flush is a common cause of overflows, and no one really wants to be dealing with that particular problem.
Then there is the matter of what should actually go down the toilet. We cannot stress this enough. Do not flush anything other than toilet tissue and waste. Seriously. That’s it. There are a lot of different products out there that claim to be flushable. And we get a lot of calls to handle clogs caused by those materials. Baby wipes, sanitary napkins, etc. all go in the trash, not down the toilet.
It’s not all about clogs when it comes to toilet problems, though. You may also encounter issues with running toilets, which could indicate a leak from the tank to the toilet bowl itself. Or, it could just be as simple as a misaligned flapper at the bottom of the tank.
You may think your toilet has sprung a leak, when in actuality there is just a bad connection between the water supply line and the tank. It’s worth ruling out obvious causes of your problems before calling in a pro. But it is always necessary to schedule your bathroom plumbing services with a trained professional if it’s anything more complex than maybe adjusting a flapper.

See what our customers say about The Goettl Way.
I have been with Goettl Air in Tucson for years and have always had complete confidence in their maintenance service. The technicians are knowledgeable and pleasant, on time, and work in an efficient and timely manner. They explain what they are doing and will make recommendations if a repair is warranted. I have purchased several preventive parts and find that my yearly inspections have been great — with little or no repair in the past years. I do like the option of a yearly maintenance contract. Having yearly maintenance keeps my furnace and air conditioner running efficiently. I would definitely recommend Goettl Air Conditioning.
