How Does It Work?
Before deciding if zone control is right for your home, you must first understand how it works. With a radiant heating system, such as hydronic floors, zone control is typically part of the package, meaning that you can set different temperatures in different areas of the home. This isn’t the case with forced air systems, though, such as furnaces, heat pumps, and central ACs. With these systems, one temperature is generally maintained throughout the entire house. A zone control system allows you to change this.
A zone control system entails the use of a central control panel, electronic dampers, and multiple thermostats. The thermostats are installed in different areas, designated as temperature zones, throughout the house. When you adjust one of these thermostats, the information is relayed to the dampers via the control panel. The corresponding dampers will either open or close, in order allow more or less conditioned air into that area. This means that you can keep different areas of your home at different temperatures.
Benefits of Zone Control
The benefits of zone controlled heating and cooling are many. First of all, it allows different people to be comfortable in the house. Not everyone is happy at the same temperature, after all. It also helps you to cut down on heating and cooling costs, as you won’t have to maintain a steady temperature in unused areas of the house. This also helps to take some strain off of your HVAC system. Give us a call today to learn more.
