3 Signs of Air Conditioning Problems

You do not need us telling you just how brutal the heat of summer has been so far this year. What you may need reminding of, though, is the fact that you absolutely cannot afford to ignore any signs of trouble with your home cooling system. No, there is no problem with your AC that is “minor” enough to ignore. By ignoring any such problems, you are only making it much more likely that you will encounter more serious, potentially more costly and damaging problems down the road.

Now, the best way to prevent damage to your system due to problems with its operation is to prevent those problems altogether, which is why you schedule routine AC maintenance. Not all problems can really be avoided, though, so the next step in protecting your air conditioner is to learn how to recognize the warning signs that you have problems early on. Keep an Eye on Your Bills

When you live in as hot a place as Phoenix, you can expect your air conditioner to add some heft to your energy costs. Yes, there are many great and efficient air conditioning systems on the market today, but you are not going to be cooling your home for free. If you start to notice that your energy bills are getting higher than usual, though, you may want to take your AC’s operating condition under consideration.

An air conditioner that is not functioning properly simply will not function as efficiently as possible. Even those problems that may seem “minor” like worn belts or loose fittings can reduce overall energy efficiency. More serious issues, like refrigerant leaks, can negatively affect energy efficiency even further. Speaking of which —

Keep an Eye Out for Ice

Whoa, you may think upon discovering ice on your air conditioning system, the old horse is really cranking today! Unfortunately, an air conditioner that is developing ice is not one that is functioning too well — in fact, it is not functioning properly at all. Refrigerant leaks are among the most damaging of all AC problems that you could encounter, and could account for the development of ice on the system. Immediate repairs are necessary.

You could also just have a very dirty air filter that needs to be changed, though, or perhaps the evaporator coil itself is dirty. The tricky thing about AC problems is that there are so many different potential causes. Hiring a professional means not only quality repairs, but a correct diagnosis to begin with.

Keep Your Ears Open, Too

Feeling warm air blowing from the system is an obvious sign of trouble, and seeing ice on it is definitely an anomaly. Make sure that you keep your ears open too, though. Get all of your senses involved if you really want to protect your air conditioning system.

Strange noises may not give you too much cause for concern, as long as your system is still up and running — they should, though. Screeching, clanging, grinding — any noises that are out of the ordinary should definitely be taken seriously and reported to your AC repair technician as soon as possible.

Jef came to our house to diagnose why our 22 year-old furnace wouldn't run correctly. He was very courteous and willing to answer my questions with as much detail as I wanted. I never felt like he was trying to sell me more than was needed to get the furnace running again. He explained, with pictures of our furnace's components, what he found when he inspected it. It simply needed a cleaning and routine service which fortunately was not a huge expense.
He explained, while he saw no immediate problems. what we might expect going forward, given the furnace's age and condition. After I asked about major component vs. whole-unit replacement, he provided a thorough explanation, and pricing, of options for us to consider.

Michael did a great job for us today. Our sewage line was completely blocked by roots. He showed me with the camera and educated me on what was happening to our old iron cast line. He knew what he was doing, the what, the why is this happening. This is going to be a major project having to replace the entire line and he informed me on how this process works and the time and effort and safety it takes to replace a line. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

This is how a service/install company should work. Price was exactly as quoted and was very fair, comparing to multiple others. They never tried to add on extras like all the others did. Installation day was when they said it would be. They scheduled the building permit, attended the inspection, and it was on time. We have been Sadi club members for years. The service is excellent from the customer service representatives that answer the phone to the individual technicians that come out to your home. Two years ago we replaced our AC unit and went with a Goettl installation after years of having them maintain our older unit.
This past week our service technician was Andrew Morgan and he is such a friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled technician. He spent time making sure the job was done correctly and he explained it in terms that I could understand. We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. He was knowledgeable, kind, super patient with our very curious child, and did absolutely everything in his power to get our AC back on. Unfortunately the blower motor was toast. He got us set up with a window unit for the time being and. Fast forward to today, Wednesday, and Christian and Ian came to install a new blower motor for us. Both gentleman were wonderful! They kept us informed of the process and what to expect as they replaced the parts. Our house is already cooling back down and I have Christian and Ian to thank for that! They did inform us of a military discount, which was very helpful, and they insured the entire process was as streamlined as it could be. Jerry also noticed our water pressure was low after flushing toilet then trying to wash hands in bathroom sink which were so he suggested a new pressure regulator as we have had a new better water conditioning system installed. We now have the best water pressure even when using a shower and kitchen sink faucet at the same time. Also Jerry is a master plumber and we appreciate his knowledge and experience. Will definitely call Goettl again when a plumber is needed.

Bobby Smith is great at explaining the options I have with my AC and Heater. He also let me know about the maintenance plan which is going to be great for me so I can always keep up to date with the AC and the heater. Also I didn't know that you did plumbing and he said I could get plumbing work done too so I am going to do that right away. I liked the photos that were taken to explain the situation on where I am at with the unit. All in all it was the best technician experience I have had since becoming a home owner in 2010.
