Using a Forced-Air Heater? Change the Filter!

It is certainly fair to say that your air conditioner gets more of a workout than your heater in the desert. However, your heater still deserves the same level of care as your air conditioner, regardless of the fact that it is not used as heavily. That is why routine heating maintenance is an absolute necessity.

It is not enough to have your system tuned up annually by a trained professional, though. There is one thing that you must handle on your own if you want to get the best performance possible from your heater. That is to change the air filter in your system as needed, typically every 1-3 months.

Problems That Dirty Air Filters Cause

We aren’t trying to get you to buy equipment that you don’t need. The effects of a very dirty air filter on your heating system are serious stuff. A few of the most common follow below.

Inefficiency. You may not use your heater for much of the year, but that doesn’t mean that you should be fine with getting an inefficient performance from this system. If you fail to change your air filter, it is going to be harder than it should for your heater to force heated air throughout your home. That wastes energy.
Reduced indoor air quality. The basic filter in your furnace or heat pump is really there to protect the system, not to improve indoor air quality throughout your home. However, if you leave a dirty air filter in the system, you will likely begin to notice a decline in your indoor air quality. Replace the filter before it has this negative impact.
Wear and tear. If you leave your air filter in your heater too long, it may restrict airflow enough for the system to overheat. That will cause it to short cycle. This wastes a lot of energy, but also puts a lot of wear and tear on the system. The result? An increased risk of operational problems and breakdowns.

I run an Airbnb with 5 rooms in my home, and my tankless water heater suddenly went out. In my case, this was an emergency, especially with the weather getting colder. Goettl ensured that a technician arrived within a few hours, and Juan Gil showed up in good spirits and ready to solve the puzzle.

Like most people, I typically search for the cheapest service I can find, and I end up having other plumbers come out to check out issues with my tankless water heater, who run their mouths, upsell parts (that don't seem to be causing the problem), and generally don't really know enough about tankless water heaters. This time, I decided to go with an experienced company with a good reputation, and I am glad that I did - Goettl's prices are very reasonable and worth the service they provide.

Juan, was very knowledgeable, patient, and persistent. Even better, he was careful and humble enough to acknowledge that he didn't know everything and checked with the manufacturer at every step. Juan spent a great deal of time helping me diagnose the problem (which always seems impossible to ascertain quickly with machines like tankless water heaters), and went above and beyond to ensure that my guests and I had hot water tonight.

Juan never got frustrated; he handled everything carefully and made sure to clean up after himself when he was done. If I can have Juan take care of all of my plumbing or AC issues in the future, I will. And if you're reading reviews to decide whether to call Goettl for your issue, I would encourage you to trust their service and experience. My experience with Juan was definitely memorable.

Clogged toilet with slow flushing that affected the shower drainage as well.
My house is a 1944 home with some old pipes. There's no "let out"
Plumbing specialist Andrew came up with the option to remove the toilet and use the camera and auger. Found out the problem was one of the pipes below is cast iron with jagged edges,in which tp would get caught up and in time caused the clog.
He cleared the pipe and everything is draining properly now!
He did mention on replacing the old pipe because of the jagged edge situation, but my budget is a bit on the tight side in which I have to put it off a little longer, he understood. We both agreed on limiting tp flushing,especially with little ones.
All in all great experience 5 stars to Goettl and 5 stars to Andrew, thanks man!

PS: I paid $408 for everything
For me a reasonable price due to the labor I saw and tools that were used, but ultimately my toilet fluhes and my shower drains!

I'm reviewing Goettl’s maintenance inspections for HVAC and plumbing. Chris was our HVAC specialist, he was very thorough and pointed out some new things on the app. Chris’ inspection revealed we had mold in our plenum, in the early stages. He gave us options, including the nil option, the maintenance and inspection were free. Kudos to Brent , our plumbing specialist came back the same day when we blew out our disposal, after he had left. I have a 13-year-old home that has aging utilities. I depend on Goettl to maintain and informed me about my utilities condition.

Pablo arrived in the window that was promised. He was very efficient when something wasn’t working quite right. He found another workaround to inspect my heating system. He cleaned off the firing point with sandpaper as I’ve seen many other technicians. Do he inspected everything took pictures of everything and sent the pictures to me. He asked if I would be interested in a price on a new system. I told him not at this time there was no hard sell. My system is now 21 years old. I plan to replace the heater and air conditioner, but not for another few years. I found four seasons to be excellent and Goettl to be just as good.

Today, Rodell did a thorough clean-out of our bathroom sink drains, including sending the camera down to check for build up out to the main connection to the sewer. This was included in our membership with no extra charge. He and his partner also found the mystery leak in the guest bathroom toilet and replaced the guts and seals. The thing I liked the best was his advice about maintenance and how that little hole in the sink is a real drain that also needs flushing out by letting the sink fill up periodically. Shortly after he visited my hot water room he requested be to accompany him to observe there was a stream of water coming out of thr drain pan. He reviewed with me some of the items associated with my current installation that might be best updated and replaced. He gave me an estimate and we should. Hands and he proceeded to remove and replace my hot water heater. The job was completed and tested tan a timely manner and he left the area in a clean and organized manner. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

This is how a service/install company should work. Price was exactly as quoted and was very fair, comparing to multiple others. They never tried to add on extras like all the others did. Installation day was when they said it would be. They scheduled the building permit, attended the inspection, and it was on time. We have been Sadi club members for years. The service is excellent from the customer service representatives that answer the phone to the individual technicians that come out to your home. Two years ago we replaced our AC unit and went with a Goettl installation after years of having them maintain our older unit.
This past week our service technician was Andrew Morgan and he is such a friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled technician. He spent time making sure the job was done correctly and he explained it in terms that I could understand. We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. He was knowledgeable, kind, super patient with our very curious child, and did absolutely everything in his power to get our AC back on. Unfortunately the blower motor was toast. He got us set up with a window unit for the time being and. Fast forward to today, Wednesday, and Christian and Ian came to install a new blower motor for us. Both gentleman were wonderful! They kept us informed of the process and what to expect as they replaced the parts. Our house is already cooling back down and I have Christian and Ian to thank for that! Jerry also noticed our water pressure was low after flushing toilet then trying to wash hands in bathroom sink which were so he suggested a new pressure regulator as we have had a new better water conditioning system installed. We now have the best water pressure even when using a shower and kitchen sink faucet at the same time. Also Jerry is a master plumber and we appreciate his knowledge and experience. Will definitely call Goettl again when a plumber is needed.
