How Does It Work?

Before deciding if zone control is right for your home, you must first understand how it works. With a radiant heating system, such as hydronic floors, zone control is typically part of the package, meaning that you can set different temperatures in different areas of the home. This isn’t the case with forced air systems, though, such as furnaces, heat pumps, and central ACs. With these systems, one temperature is generally maintained throughout the entire house. A zone control system allows you to change this.

A zone control system entails the use of a central control panel, electronic dampers, and multiple thermostats. The thermostats are installed in different areas, designated as temperature zones, throughout the house. When you adjust one of these thermostats, the information is relayed to the dampers via the control panel. The corresponding dampers will either open or close, in order allow more or less conditioned air into that area. This means that you can keep different areas of your home at different temperatures.

The benefits of zone controlled heating and cooling are many. First of all, it allows different people to be comfortable in the house. Not everyone is happy at the same temperature, after all. This week I learned that it’s best to rely on the pros. I ordered a toilet from my local hardware store, found out it was too large, ordered a smaller toilet, took off my old toilet, tried to install the new one, one of the bolts came loose, then looked up a potential flange replacement and threw in the towel at the skill required.

Junior Gonzalez (Goettl) came the next evening, replaced my wall inlet valve and began the reinstallation. He found that the flange did indeed need to be replaced, but that required soldering due to my older house’s lead pipes.

Richard Wenzlaff (also with Goettl) came the next day and finished the installation (including soldering pipe repair and flange installation).

... 10/15/25 ... we had a leak in the main water line which was running into the neighbors' yard. In less than two hours of calling Goettl, Clayton Purvis arrived to fix the leak. He repaired the leak and fixed connections, and repaired something previously done incorrectly in the unknown past. He was done before we had to leave for a prior equipment. I feel confident in the quality of work, as I always am when I have to call Goettl for something.

March 2024 update.

Had Andrew come out to remove garbage disposal and repipe sink. He also swapped out 13 emergency water shut off valves in 3 bathrooms.
Andrew was professional, courteous and expedient. He did have to run out to get some supplies. He stayed until 7pm to complete the job on one trip.

May 2023 update. Technician Steve came today to do the summer rejuvenation. Friendly and professional tech. Explained the process and findings. Both systems are new, so everything checked out good. Did a god cleaning of coils and now all set for the summer season. Had them out for fall prevention service and to review the systems that are here. I just bought the house and needed to understand what was in place.

The service tech, Kevin was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He explained and provided photos and video of all components. He ensured keeping house clean and wore booties.

My second unit is not in the best shape, and Kevin explained each of the issues. I will follow up with service managér to determine next steps (repair or replacement).

I signed up for there service plan and am very pleased with the service and communication to date

We’ve been Goettl customers for years and have always appreciated their service, but Kevin Edwards truly raised the bar. During his visit yesterday, Kevin showed outstanding attention to detail and technical expertise. For months, several technicians tried to identify the issue with my air conditioning unit, but no one could solve it. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. He was knowledgeable, kind, super patient with our very curious child, and did absolutely everything in his power to get our AC back on. Unfortunately the blower motor was toast. He got us set up with a window unit for the time being and. Fast forward to today, Wednesday, and Christian and Ian came to install a new blower motor for us. Both gentleman were wonderful! We have had Goettl of Tucson service for about a year and thank goodness we had them to call when our AC failed and had a condensation leak in the attic . Goettl sent ROBERT out right away. He did a thorough inspection and informed us of what we already felt we needed to do with our old system. He sat down with me and went through the pros and cons of repairing the old vs replacement. He explained everything about a new Goettl system. From all the benefits, to the great warranties to the peace of mind we’d have not having to worry what would and could happen next to the old system. He was friendly, thoughtful and professional. He put in a call to TYLER in sales & finance to reach out to us. He did and went through all the models of systems Goettl has to offer and all info we needed to make a decision and give him a call back. Robert gave us positive points to know we wanted a new system and Tyler gave us option on how. Thanks guys! Next day bright and early came some amazing techs ADRIAN and LUIS to install our new system. Such professionals, friendly with great personalities. Bobby Smith is great at explaining the options I have with my AC and Heater. He also let me know about the maintenance plan which is going to be great for me so I can always keep up to date with the AC and the heater. Also I didn't know that you did plumbing and he said I could get plumbing work done too so I am going to do that right away. I liked the photos that were taken to explain the situation on where I am at with the unit. All in all it was the best technician experience I have had since becoming a home owner in 2010. I would highly recommend Geottl and Bobby to anyone because of getting things right the first time, going out of his way to help, following up and keeping promises, and great product and technical knowledge. I'm not super informed on my home machines so it is comforting to be in good hands.
