AC FAQ: Why Change the Air Filter?

Pop quiz time — what is the single best thing that you can do to keep your air conditioning system in great working condition? If you answered “schedule routine air conditioning maintenance,” then you are correct. Mostly, anyway. Yes, scheduling routine air conditioning maintenance in North Las Vegas, NV is absolutely vital in the quest for a truly great home cooling experience. That being said, you’d be overlooking a very important step if you thought that this was all that is required of you.

While the bulk of your air conditioning maintenance procedures must be completed by trained professionals, there is one specific task that you yourself should be completing regularly. That is changing your air filter as needed. Typically, this means doing so every 1-3 months — though many factors will influence the situation and regularity in your home. If you have any doubts about just how important changing your air filter really is, we hope that you’ll keep the following information in mind. 

How Big of a Difference Can It Really Make?

We get it. You’ve got a lot on your plate, and the fact of the matter is that changing your air filter just doesn’t sound like that big of a priority. After all, it isn’t like your air conditioner is broken down or anything, right? Well, we really need to stress the fact that, simple a step as it may be, changing your air filter really can have some pretty major benefits for you and your system — just as failing to change that air filter can have some pretty serious consequences.

  1. Enjoy better efficiency. It goes without saying that we run our air conditioners a lot in this part of the country. You are going to have to pay for your comfort when the heat of summer strikes, but you should not have to overpay. If you leave a dirty filter in your air conditioner, though, chances are that you are going to be doing just that. Increased airflow resistance will force the system to work harder than it should have to in cooling your home, and your energy bills will reflect that.
  2. Enjoy better comfort. When your air conditioner is struggling just to force cooled air throughout your home, it is not going to function at peak performance levels. That will leave your comfort to suffer. The areas furthest from the air handler may not cool down as much as those closer, and your air quality may drop off as well. Very clogged filters can create so much airflow resistance that it is easier to force air around the filter than through it.
  3. Enjoy better reliability. Your air conditioner should go through a full cooling cycle before shutting down. If your air conditioner has a very dirty air filter causing it to overheat, though, then your system is likely going to wind up short cycling. That means that it will start up, run only briefly, and then shut back down. This increased strain can compromise the system, and increase the risk of damages.

I would always hear their commercials on the radio about the company name being hard to spell - it just sort of stuck in my head I guess. Then one morning, everyone in the house is complaining that there wasn't any hot water. I went in to check on the water heater - only to find it was flooding everywhere - coming out of the top. Some type of valve had failed and it was a mess. I remembered that hard-to-spell company name and decided to give them a shot.

To my surprise, the rep came out within a hour or so - that same morning. He educated me on a few tips - like not needing to shut off the water to the entire house in a situation like this - and a few other tips, but as for the water heater - it was toast and already beyond the warranty it had.

There was zero sales pressure for a specific water heater - and instead, he spent quite a bit of time with my wife and I going over the many different options they had for replacing one.

Once again to my surprise, after we picked one - he was already on the phone with a crew and the installation was set for that same day - no extra charges for an emergency situation or anything like that. The crew came out a couple hours later and they, too, were very polite and professional - discussing everything with me before they started touching anything. There was some additional work that had to be done because of the allignment of my exhaust piping - but they all stayed there for the rest of the day - making sure the system was installed that very same day as promised.

My wife and I couldn't be happier with the quality of their customer service, installation, and products. The entire team has been lovely.

My A/C stopped working in the Texas heat. Luckily, I was a member of their maintenance program which is very reasonably priced! Tech stopped by first thing the next morning. Turned out my outside A/C circuit breaker had tripped presumably due to age or overheating. Tech didn’t charge me (plan benefit) and recommended I have an electrician inspect and replace the breaker to avoid a repeat. 5-star service 🙂

20 MAY 2023....our new AC unit wasnt working as well as we hoped....we called Goettl and they got a tech out in 3 days....Matt showed up and trouble shooted the problem....within an hour nice cool air!!! Thanks everyone for your prompt service and customer relations!!!!

We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

My service technician today was Angel Rodriguez. He was wonderful! I am a member of Goettl‘s monitoring service and I pay a monthly fee of $19.95. I’m not very computer savvy so I wasn’t using the app that all the in-house sensors connect to. Angel explained things to me and showed me how to do it online so now I understand what all these sensors are doing in the house and what they can tell me and help me with as far as troubleshooting any problems before they occur. . My system is new this spring from Goettl and the condensation drain pipe hasn’t been putting out much water all summer. I’m used to water coming out of these pipes so I asked Angel to check it and he did by pouring some water through it and it was flowing fine on the other end. Angel explained that when the system is new, it just doesn’t have that much condensation to drain. Also the heater needed some adjusting to work properly and Angel knew what he was doing and fixed everything so everything works properly now as far as air conditioning and heating. Angel inspected the ductwork in the attic and pointed out some issues that I should address whether it’s on my own or hiring Goettle to do the work. Angel put no pressure on me to have his company do the work. I can’t say enough good things about this man. Very professional and knowledgeable. I hope to have him be my technician anytime I need somebody coming out to perform maintenance or fix my system. Thank you, Angel Rodriguez!

Pablo arrived in the window that was promised. He was very efficient when something wasn’t working quite right. He found another workaround to inspect my heating system. He cleaned off the firing point with sandpaper as I’ve seen many other technicians. Do he inspected everything took pictures of everything and sent the pictures to me. He asked if I would be interested in a price on a new system. I told him not at this time there was no hard sell. My system is now 21 years old. I plan to replace the heater and air conditioner, but not for another few years. I found four seasons to be excellent and Goettl to be just as good.

Update2: Goetti set up the building permit appointment with the county, and attended the inspection, which past with no issues. Other companies that I have dealt with have not done so much. Furthermore, I did get multiple estimates, and all the other companies had convenient add-on's which proved by the inspection were a unnecessary expense, thus making Geotti price the lowest and most honest of them all. By the way, the heater and a/c have work to perfection and are both very quiet

We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. Had a gas line in my home that needed repair. Goettl was quick to send a technician that night even though it was well past business hours. Chris came over and gave us a quote. He made sure we knew our payment options and thoroughly explained what the repair was going to be like and the steps we needed to take with the gas company. We have had Goettl of Tucson service for about a year and thank goodness we had them to call when our AC failed and had a condensation leak in the attic . Goettl sent ROBERT out right away. He did a thorough inspection and informed us of what we already felt we needed to do with our old system. He sat down with me and went through the pros and cons of repairing the old vs replacement. He explained everything about a new Goettl system. From all the benefits, to the great warranties to the peace of mind we’d have not having to worry what would and could happen next to the old system. He was friendly, thoughtful and professional. He put in a call to TYLER in sales & finance to reach out to us. He did and went through all the models of systems Goettl has to offer and all info we needed to make a decision and give him a call back. Robert gave us positive points to know we wanted a new system and Tyler gave us option on how. Thanks guys! Next day bright and early came some amazing techs ADRIAN and LUIS to install our new system. Such professionals, friendly with great personalities. Bobby Smith is great at explaining the options I have with my AC and Heater. He also let me know about the maintenance plan which is going to be great for me so I can always keep up to date with the AC and the heater. Also I didn't know that you did plumbing and he said I could get plumbing work done too so I am going to do that right away. I liked the photos that were taken to explain the situation on where I am at with the unit. All in all it was the best technician experience I have had since becoming a home owner in 2010. I would highly recommend Geottl and Bobby to anyone because of getting things right the first time, going out of his way to help, following up and keeping promises, and great product and technical knowledge. I'm not super informed on my home machines so it is comforting to be in good hands.
