Drain Clogs: Some Truths to Consider
There is no getting around how inconvenient plumbing problems of all shapes and sizes are. You rely on your plumbing system for so much, every day, throughout the entire day. Getting ready for work, cooking meals, washing dirty clothes, cleaning up at the end of the day. Your plumbing system is truly integral to so many different parts of your life. With that in mind, let’s reassess our opening statement. Yes, plumbing problems are inconvenient. But that’s to say the least!
Plumbing problems can really bring your daily routine grind to a halt. And once that happens, it can be tough to get things going again. And this is when it becomes really messy. Why? Because people start telling themselves that they can handle the fix on their own. It’s just a clogged drain, they tell themselves. I can handle this. I’ve got some liquid drain cleaner. I can buy a drain snake. And so it begins. And headaches follow.
There Is Some Good News
No, we are not going to tell you some secret that will make you capable of effectively handling drain cleaning services on your own. That is and always will be a job that is best left to trained professionals. However, there are plenty of adjustments that you can probably make in your day to day life that will help to limit the occurrences of clogged drains in your home. The hard truth of the matter is that many of these clogs are caused, at least in part, by behaviors that can be modified or practices that homeowners just don’t realize are detrimental.
Your Garbage Disposal Is Not a Do-It-All Appliance
Some people really seem to think that installing a garbage disposal in the kitchen means that they can put just about anything down that drain. This is not entirely true, though. There are plenty of things that should not go down the garbage disposal. Some of them, like very fibrous foods, can get wrapped up in the disposal itself and strain the device until damage is done. Then there are other materials, like pasta, beans, or liquified fats, that can and will lead to clogs.
Starchy products may go through the garbage disposal just fine, but they can take on water and swell up even after they’re processed, leading to very stubborn blockages. Then there is oil, grease, and fat to consider. Your garbage disposal is not going to do anything to manage these materials, and they will congeal as they cool in your pipes. That will also lead to serious clogs. So yes, a garbage disposal is a super helpful appliance, but only when used properly and within its intended scope.
Unfortunately, You Can’t Prevent All Problems
Being careful with your garbage disposal, using drain guards, removing hair and whiskers from drains rather than trying to flush them down through the system—all of these measures are really going to help you to cut back on the occurrence of clogs in your drains. There is really very little that you can do to prevent problems like tree roots growing into your pipes, though. When you’re planting new trees or bushes, keep the location of pipes in mind. But other than that, just keep the possibility in mind, and keep our number handy!

Clogged toilet with slow flushing that affected the shower drainage as well.
My house is a 1944 home with some old pipes. There's no "let out"
Plumbing specialist Andrew came up with the option to remove the toilet and use the camera and auger. Found out the problem was one of the pipes below is cast iron with jagged edges,in which tp would get caught up and in time caused the clog.
He cleared the pipe and everything is draining properly now!
He did mention on replacing the old pipe because of the jagged edge situation, but my budget is a bit on the tight side in which I have to put it off a little longer, he understood. We both agreed on limiting tp flushing,especially with little ones.
All in all great experience 5 stars to Goettl and 5 stars to Andrew, thanks man!

They had to do a lot of work due to our old system not being wired or insulated properly. He spent a long time making sure everything was down right. Chris was our HVAC specialist, he was very thorough and pointed out some new things on the app. Chris’ inspection revealed we had mold in our plenum, in the early stages. He gave us options, including the nil option, the maintenance and inspection were free. Kudos to Brent , our plumbing specialist came back the same day when we blew out our disposal, after he had left. I have a 13-year-old home that has aging utilities. Pablo arrived in the window that was promised. He was very efficient when something wasn’t working quite right. He found another workaround to inspect my heating system. He cleaned off the firing point with sandpaper as I’ve seen many other technicians. Do he inspected everything took pictures of everything and sent the pictures to me. He asked if I would be interested in a price on a new system. I told him not at this time there was no hard sell. My system is now 21 years old. I plan to replace the heater and air conditioner, but not for another few years. I found four seasons to be excellent and Goettl to be just as good.

Today, Rodell did a thorough clean-out of our bathroom sink drains, including sending the camera down to check for build up out to the main connection to the sewer. This was included in our membership with no extra charge. He and his partner also found the mystery leak in the guest bathroom toilet and replaced the guts and seals. The thing I liked the best was his advice about maintenance and how that little hole in the sink is a real drain that also needs flushing out by letting the sink fill up periodically. We ordered a new refrigerator from Lowe’s. When they delivered it, they said they could not install the water line. We were not familiar with plumbers so we asked our neighbor who did the plumbing in his new shower. He said Goettl and he was very happy with the results. I called them they sent out a wonderful servicemen, Gerardo Gonzalez. The builders had used 3/8” pipes and Lowe’s seemed to only have 1/4” connectors. Gerardo solved our problem and we had to get Lowe’s out again the next day to finish the install. We highly recommend Goettl and appreciate the caliber of their staff!

When he found the unit was functioning at 35%, he continued to search for the reason why. He replaced the capacitor and cleaned the coils which improved the function. We called on a Saturday and thankfully Christian Acosta was the one on call to help us out. He was knowledgeable, kind, super patient with our very curious child, and did absolutely everything in his power to get our AC back on. Unfortunately the blower motor was toast. He got us set up with a window unit for the time being and. Fast forward to today, Wednesday, and Christian and Ian came to install a new blower motor for us. Both gentleman were wonderful! They kept us informed of the process and what to expect as they replaced the parts. Our house is already cooling back down and I have Christian and Ian to thank for that! They did inform us of a military discount, which was very helpful, and they insured the entire process was as streamlined as it could be. If we ever need assistance in the future, I will be calling and asking for Christian and Ian because I know they will ensure that our HVAC system has been treated with the highest quality of service. They also brought our son an adorable plushie of Sadie, the Goettle mascot, and a flashlight. Its comforting to know that when Christian and Ian are on the job, you'll be taken care of as if they were working on their own homes.

We now have the best water pressure even when using a shower and kitchen sink faucet at the same time. Also Jerry is a master plumber and we appreciate his knowledge and experience. Will definitely call Goettl again when a plumber is needed.

Company sent us Stanley to help with a water line for our refrigerator. Had several problems but Stanley was very knowledgeable and informed us of all decisions and you could tell he just lived his job. It was a pricey fix and I respected Stanley more for being situationally aware that my wife and I needed to talk in private.
