What Type of Air Purifier Do I Need?

Homeowners in the know realize that the temperature of the air in their homes is not all that matters when it comes their comfort. Sure, you absolutely need a good heating and cooling system installed in your home if you hope to live comfortably therein. That being said, though, comfortable air alone is not going to cut it if the quality of that air is not great. Your HVAC system is designed to regulate temperatures, not to ensure the quality of your indoor air. For that, you just may need an air purifier in Phoenix, AZ. There are different types to consider, though. Work with Goettl Good Guys Air Conditioning to ensure that you’re using the right air purifier for your needs.

Electronic Air Cleaners

While your HVAC system does have a filter in it, this filter is designed to protect the interior condition of your system, not your indoor air quality. Using a more efficient air filter can help many homeowners to overcome their indoor air quality problems. However, others will find that further action must be taken. If this is the case in your home, then an electronic air cleaner may be right for you.

There are different types of electronic air cleaners out there, but they have similar operational processes. Generally, air is pulled into an ionization, as with electronic precipitators. The pollutants within that air are given an electric charge, and are then trapped on oppositely charged plates. Some models may simply release the pollutants, allowing them to adhere to surfaces in the house, from which they are removed during regular cleaning.

UV Air Purifiers

While electronic air cleaners are great for removing pollutants such dirt and dust from the air, biological pollutants, such as viruses, mold, and bacteria, cannot simply be filtered from the air. They must be destroyed, lest they continue to reproduce after being trapped by a filter or air cleaner. That is where UV germicidal lights come in.

UV air purifiers emit small, safe amounts of UV radiation within the ductwork of HVAC systems. This radiation is harmless to all living in the house. It is devastating for biological pollutants, though, destroying them at the DNA level and rendering them incapable of reproduction. They don’t filter the air, though, and must be used in conjunction with air filtration/cleaning equipment.

I have been with Goettl Air in Tucson for years and have always had complete confidence in their maintenance service. The technicians are knowledgeable and pleasant, on time, and work in an efficient and timely manner. They explain what they are doing and will make recommendations if a repair is warranted. I have purchased several preventive parts and find that my yearly inspections have been great — with little or no repair in the past years. I do like the option of a yearly maintenance contract. Having yearly maintenance keeps my furnace and air conditioner running efficiently. I would definitely recommend Goettl Air Conditioning.
