Arizona company installs evaporative air conditioner to provide safe play area for animals at Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Safe Haven
PHOENIX (July 28, 2014) – Goettl Good Guys Air Conditioning Repairmen, a leading heating and air conditioning company in Arizona, announced today the company donated and installed a 10,000 cfm evaporative air conditioner on the rooftop of the animal play area at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Animal Safe Haven (MASH) on July 21, 2014. The project is valued at $5,000. In addition to cooling air, the evaporative air conditioner adds moisture to the air, an extra benefit in Arizona’s dry climate. The unit was installed on the roof of MASH and is now being used to cool the outdoor play area for dogs.
Dan Burke, president of Goettl, served as the project manager during the installation. Burke led the initiative to donate the evaporative air conditioning unit after discussing the need with Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Goettl advisory board member Randy Pullen. The play area was not useable in the hot summer months in Phoenix, leaving the facility’s dogs with nowhere to play.
To complete the project, the company used a crane to lift the unit three stories and install it on the roof. MASH Unit Supervisor Sergeant Lisa Mejia and Maricopa County Maintenance Supervisor Tim Rosenow were all key supporters in accomplishing the installation.
“During the summer months, Goettl receives calls every day from pet owners who are concerned their inoperative air conditioners could cause health problems for their pets,” said Kenneth D. Goodrich, managing partner of Goettl. “We treat service calls to hot homes with family pets with the same priority as senior citizens and children. Everyone deserves to stay cool and safe.”
The MASH program was created to house and care for animals that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers and rescued by the Animal Crimes Investigations Unit. Goettl installed the cooler to assist in the no-kill shelter’s mission to provide a safe environment for animals rescued from neglectful and abusive homes. The evaporative cooler was installed in the former First Avenue Jail, which was converted into a no-kill animal shelter by Sheriff Arpaio. The building itself is air-conditioned to comfortably and safely house animals. With the addition of the evaporative cooler, the dogs will have the chance to exercise even in the hot summer months.
“I truly admire the work that MASH does to protect and house helpless animals that have nowhere else to go,” Burke said. “The heat in Arizona is hazardous to both humans and animals. Goettl is committed to ensuring that all members of our community are cool and safe this summer.”
