Goettl Air Conditioning Rewards Nevada Student
At Goettl Air Conditioning, we believe in giving back to our community. We are always on the lookout for ways in which to do so, and we’ve got a recent example that we’d like to share with you today. It concerns our proud support and sponsorship of the Post 9/11 Veterans Tools Award.
Owner Ken Goodrich was more than happy to help College of Southern Nevada Student Nick Hughes on the next step in his career path this month. Mr. Hughes left the U.S. Navy 3 years ago and, like many veterans, was unsure what career he would pursue once his service to his country was completed. Now, he is rapidly approaching graduation from his two-year applied science in air conditioning technology program at the College of Southern Nevada. Nick is also the recipient of the Post 9/11 Veterans Tools Award, sponsored by our own Ken Goodrich.
This award differs from other scholarships and endowments, in that it specifically allows Mr. Hughes to choose $1,000 of tools to take into the next step of his career. This is a huge benefit, and Ken knows that it is one that will be put to good use.
“I’ve learned through the course of my career people coming out of the military make good employees,” Goodrich said. “This scholarship is a good opportunity to help put good people start out strong in the HVAC industry.”
“When I came out of school, I had screwdrivers, nuts and bolts. What I couldn’t afford was all of this,” Dennis Soukup, applied science department chair at the college, said of the tools Hughes received. “Back then, you worked for an employer, and they took it out of your check.”
The award and its potential for jump starting his career is certainly not lost on Mr. Hughes. “The tools you need are so expensive, and there are so many you need,” said Hughes, 28. “It’s amazing and awesome to have that kind of support, for the community to get together to support a veteran.”
