Common Problems with Insulation
The heat of our summer seasons around here is legendary. Our winter weather is obviously far milder than the heat of summer, but we still have plenty of uncomfortably chilly nights during that time of the year. When you think of overcoming such discomfort in your home, your mind may immediately go to your heating and air conditioning systems. There is another important factor to consider, however, and that is your insulation.
Chances are that you don’t think about your insulation all that much. It’s not like it is going to suffer mechanical problems the way that a heater or an AC might, right? Well, this is true. That does not, however, mean that your insulation is always going to function properly or maintain its integrity indefinitely. Here are a few problems that you may encounter with the insulation in your home. If you suspect trouble with your insulation, be sure to give us a call right away.
- An Inadequate Amount of Insulation. This is a problem that we’ll sometimes come across with blown-in insulation (though certainly not when our team installs your insulation). If you have had trouble maintaining even temperatures throughout your home ever since having your insulation installed, or if your energy costs have always seemed higher than they should, it’s possible that your house want not outfitted with enough insulation to begin with. Insufficient amounts of insulation result in insufficient R-value levels, which denote the resistance to heat transfer offered by the insulation.
- Poor Installation Practices. Batt insulation, those fluffy pink rolls that most homeowners think of when the envision insulating materials, is still very commonly used. However, if misaligned or not installed directly against surfaces, your batt insulation is not going to provide the R-value specified by the product. We will always make sure that your batt insulation is installed correctly so that it gets off to a great start, and stays on that path.
- Degradation. Over time, it is possible that your insulation may degrade in quality. We don’t mean to suggest that problems with one’s insulation are always the result of shoddy service quality. It is possible that leaks in your home may damage your insulation with water. You may have an infestation of pests and varmints that damage your insulation. Whatever the case may be, though, it is always in your best interest to contact trained professionals immediately.
Is It Really That Big of a Deal?
You may not think that subpar insulation is really that big of a deal. After all, you are still able to heat and cool your home effectively, right? Well, there are a lot of negative consequences to ignoring signs of trouble with your insulation. For instance, you may put excess strain on your HVAC system as it struggles to maintain balanced temperatures throughout your home. That increases the risk of a breakdown. You may also be paying more than you should have to in order to live comfortably. We believe that you deserve better than that.
